Fiona was a Highland Dancer as a child growing up in the north of Scotland. She is now the proud parent of two highland dancing children: one girl and one boy, which makes costuming more interesting. She lives in Ottawa, Canada and is also an avid knitter. Just don’t ask her to knit dance socks – there’s a reason they’re so expensive and you couldn’t pay her enough to hand knit them.

The goals of this site are:

  1. To distill the collective wisdom of experienced highland dancing parents and teachers into useful tips and hints that PARENTS need to know.
  2. To help me remember “all the things” when it’s 6AM and we’re heading out to a dance competition.

This site is not meant to replace the knowledge of your dance teacher and I won’t be discussing actual dancing techniques.

I hope you find it useful as I continue to build it. Please feel free to email me any tips, links, hints or nuggets of info that you’d like to see on this site.
